The economy has taken a large effect on how people live their lives. It has even taken a drastic effect on marriages. Many people have divorced due to economic woes, but more commonly people are forced to stay together unhappily married. Deborah Marmolejo is an example of someone who had to stay in a poor marriage because she could not survive on her own financially outside of it.

Financial Strain Leads To Divorce

Marriages tend to fall apart from compatibility issues, lack of trust, infidelity, the list goes on. However financial distress tends to take a heavy toll on marriage.

Deborah Marmolejo and her husband went through many marital issues and they allbegan with arguments about money.

According to Lawerence Fissure, author and lawyer arguments about money lead to compatibility issues.

“Any married couple that argues “on a weekly basis” about anything is likely to have marital problems that lead to divorce.” Fissure said, “Don’t get me wrong, no marriage is without arguments, but if a couple can’t go without arguing for several weeks or months at a time, it’s common sense that compatibility issues plague the marriage.” Read the rest of this entry »

Economics has always been an issue in marriages. We’ve all heard our parents argue about bills and how they pay for certain expenses. 57% of all couples that divorce do so because of financial issues. In our current economic crisis causing everyone to struggle marriages are at an even more dire state. Can marriages among the working poor survive?
